Lessons from the coronavirus (part 2)
The virus is back with renewed vigour. No one expected such a dramatic return. Why has this happened and what do we have to learn?
Uttarayanam
We should keep our internal mechanism in tune with the movements of the sun, earth and planets; we should align our inner self with the movement of Uttarayanam and Dakshinayanam.
Agamas
The Agamas were also heard by the rishis. They are the source of almost all the rituals and daily habits of Hinduism.
Sadhana for Navaratri
Here are some instructions how the thirteen chapters of the Devi Mahatmyam should be divided during these days of Navaratri.
Shastras
Many of the shastras pertaining to localised events are capable of being changed but the fact is that there is very little in them which are purely localised.
The Consciousness of India
What exactly is the Hindu consciousness? The most important thing about it is the rooted belief in a Supreme Being which emanates and permeates everything.
The ancient city of Ayodhya
It is indeed the irony of fate that Sri Rama who was the gentlest person who ever existed, who was loved by all who met him, should have faced so many calamities during his own lifetime and is still having a raging storm surrounding his capital and doubts being cast about his very existence! It is high time that Hindus recognised the glory of the ancient kings of their own land.
Shabarimala
The Shabarimala temple is unique in Kerala since everyone regardless of caste and creed, is allowed to enter and worship at the temple.
Dakshinaayanam
Dakshinaayanam - the second half of the year according to the Hindu calendar. This period is best for doing any type of spiritual sadhana (spiritual practice) and hence it is known as sadhana pada.
Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple
The temple is ranked as one of the 108 divya desams of the Vaishnavites. The Bhagavata Purana mentions that Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna had visited this temple which makes it out to be at least 5,000 years old.
Guru Purnima
Our biological parents gave us physical life but it is the Guru who takes us to the final purushartha or goal of life which is “moksha” or liberation from the wheel of birth and re-birth.
Jagannath Puri
Sage Narada arrived to see Krishna, Subhadra and Balarama standing together like murtis. He humbly prayed: “May the three of you grant Darshan in this manner forever”. The Lord granted the boon, and the three reside eternally in the Jagannath Mandir in Puri.
Eclipse
The benefit derived from spiritual practices performed during an eclipse is thousands of times greater than at other times. There are also a number of rules which should be followed to minimise the negative effects of this natural phenomenon.
Ganga
The Ganga is considered as the holiest river in India. Traditionally she is supposed to have come from the constellation known as the Milky Way.
More Magic Numbers
Hinduism has always recognised the magic of numbers and this is why we find that this number is found many times in our astrology and astronomy.
The Magic Number
The number 108 is one of those inexplicable figures that crops up all the time in Hinduism yet no one seems capable of giving the right answer.
Varna and Jati
Anyone who wants to belittle Hinduism will always bring up the question of caste. First of all let us be clear on this point.
The Wonder that is India
India has maintained the longest, unbroken continuity of civilisation in the whole world. This is because the Sanatana Dharma which is the basic culture of the country is based on Truth. “Satyameva Jayati” is our motto – “Truth alone shall prevail”!
Lessons from the coronavirus
For the first time in the history of the world, we are facing a very strange situation. For the first time we are starting to realise that life is a contract between the human being and Nature.
Vrindavana
Oh Wavering mind! Go to Vrindavana and take the dust of that holy soil, on which the lotus feet of Lord Krishna have trod and place it on your forehead. Then only will you be blessed.
